Strength training for Govalle

Govalle is our literal backyard — some members' warm-up is the walk over. This stretch of the eastside builds things: workshops, breweries, studios, and small warehouses full of people who work with their hands and then, historically, went home with backs that hated them for it.

A lot of our Govalle members came in for exactly that: the carpenter whose lower back gave out at 34, the brewer slinging kegs, the ceramicist with forearms of iron and shoulders of paper. Strength training built around carries, hinges, and honest pressing is basically occupational insurance for this neighborhood, and we program it that way.

Who trains here from Govalle

  • Tradespeople strength-proofing their backs for the next thirty years
  • Brewery and studio staff from the Springdale corridor
  • The walk-to-the-gym crowd — some in slides, carrying their lifters
  • Airport-corridor commuters catching the 6:30 a.m. before 183 clogs
  • At least one blacksmith. His grip strength humbles everyone

You can hear our bumper plates from your porch. Might as well come make some of the noise yourself — first week free.
